There are situations when the number of completions may be higher than the value you specified in the Settings, e.g., we receive 105 completions, even though the limit was 100.

The main reason for such a situation is several people starting to fill out the survey at the same time, meaning we have an example situation as below:

  • 99 respondents have completed the survey, and the system collecting results has already registered exactly the same number of completions,

  • therefore, 1 free slot remains, i.e., the system normally should register the completion of only 1 more survey, and then block the possibility of filling it out for subsequent people,

  • however, during this time, when we still have this 1 remaining free missing completion, e.g., 6 people start filling out the survey,

  • we are unable to predict which of these people will finish filling out the survey first, because, for example, they might ultimately not finish it at all, or postpone it. Therefore, we cannot block the survey completion by the remaining people if we want to collect the complete set of needed completions as quickly as possible,

  • at the moment when this one missing completion is sent to us, it would be a bad practice to systematically interrupt the study for those people who got involved and dedicated their time to fill out the survey for us. We should therefore allow them - and this is how the internal settings are configured - to finish the study. Not only for this one first person, but for the rest as well.

Hence, the final number of completions may be higher than what we specified in the completion limit settings.
